Digital Government Transformation Amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution

During this pivotal time, we have an awesome responsibility to help governments create sustainable long term economic growth and stronger social inclusion.  We must help governments responsibly seize the capability that cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and Internet of Services presents to create a better world for all citizens.  Many in the scientific community warn of the unintended consequences that artificial intelligence gains may create thru this revolution.  Mr. Day will outline steps we can we take now with examples of new private sector and civil society partnerships that can help digitally transform the workforce and the role of government.

Delivering on Digital: The Innovators and Technologies That Are Transforming Government

How can government transform its capabilities by capitalizing on today’s new digital tools? Best-selling author William D. Eggers, a research director at Deloitte, coined the term Government 2.0 more than a decade ago and now envisions an even more revolutionary era in government enabled by cloud computing, mobile devices and analytics.

In this entertaining and inspiring talk based on his new book Delivering on Digital: The Innovators and Technologies That are Transforming Government, Eggers chronicles the new generation of digital innovators who are “hacking bureaucracy” to reform and modernize long-standing bureaucratic processes and reimagine virtually every facet of what government does using digital tools. The key to unlocking the power of digital in government is not the tools themselves but the digital mindset needed to fully harness them. Eggers will inspire your audience to “think digital” when it comes to citizens, products, and process. Once they do, we’ll have the power to make government faster, iterative, and adaptable.  The results will be as revolutionary as the changes it took to get there.

Industry Intelligence: Transforming the Government from the Outside In

THE PUBLIC DEMANDS BETTER GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Organizations in every industry have discovered that the only sustainable competitive advantage is knowledge of and engagement with customers. Governments are no exception. As companies become more responsive to their customers, citizens are becoming more dissatisfied with governments' inability to keep up. In fact, only a third of citizens say that their experience with government organizations meets their expectations.  More than ever before, the public's demand for better experiences means that CX pros in government organizations must:

  • Offer the services that people need. Leading companies like Amazon and Google use big data analytics to understand what customers want.
  • Provide services when and where people want them. The public is pushing for governments to offer more mobile contextual services and easier access.
  • Make access effective, easy, and emotionally engaging.  Only about half of citizens said that they can find what they are looking for on government websites.
  • Deliver services quickly and efficiently.  The public expects similar performance from government.

This presentation is based on Rick’s report “Transform Government From The Outside In”
